In recent years, the U.S. military has faced significant challenges in maintaining its foundational principles of cohesion, meritocracy, and apolitical service. Under the Obama and then Biden administrations, there has been a devastating shift away from traditional military culture focused on combat readiness to a focus on “diversity, equity and inclusiveness (DEI). Many military experts and career service members express concern that the DEI focus is undermining our national security in very alarming ways.
The integration of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) principles, often linked to critical race theory (CRT) have politicized the armed forces, prioritizing social agendas over combat readiness. DEI measures that emphasize inherent biases and systemic racism clash with the military’s merit-based culture, sowing division and resentment among troops. This approach has eroded the mutual trust and unity essential for mission success, weakening the military’s operational strength.
Bishop Garrison: Missteps and Fallout
Bishop Garrison’s tenure as the Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Defense for Diversity and Inclusion has been one of the most damaging appointments in undermining the traditional military culture.
Under Bishop Garrison’s leadership, the Department of Defense’s Countering Extremism Working Group (CEWG) introduced initiatives that many argue have undermined the military’s cohesion and morale. Garrison cloaked his DEI intentions as a well-meaning endeavor to “address extremism and foster inclusivity.” In reality, his initiatives met their intended goal: purging patriots, conservatives, and people of faith from the military.
Garrison’s public statements linking support for President Trump as “racists” and “extremism” raised questions about his impartiality and fueled perceptions of political bias. Garrison also broadened definitions of “extremism” but without clear guidelines. In doing so, the CEWG fostered an environment of suspicion, where service members feared ideological purges based on their political affiliations or personal beliefs.
Bishop’s policies and initiatives have resulted in painful consequences that threaten the military’s operational readiness and institutional integrity. Pete Hegseth, poised to assume leadership in the Department of Defense, offers a much-needed opportunity to recalibrate the military’s focus, restoring its core mission of warfighting and reinforcing the principles that have long defined its excellence.
Perhaps most troubling has been the military’s handling of service members who objected to the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) COVID-19 jab. The mandates for the COVID-19 jab created one of the most significant self-inflicted readiness problems in military history. Service members who refused the jab, often citing sincere religious beliefs or concerns about the jab’s experimental nature, faced punitive actions including demotions, career stagnation, and in some cases, discharge. This disproportionate targeting not only violated longstanding protections for religious freedom but also resulted in the unjust dismissal of countless skilled and dedicated personnel. These actions created a climate of mistrust, alienation, and weakened unit cohesion, severely impacting the military’s operational readiness at a time when retaining skilled service members is critical to national security.
The Revolver News article titled “Meet Bishop Garrison: The Pentagon’s Hatchet Man in Charge of Purging MAGA Patriots and Installing Race Theory in The Military” highlights concerns regarding Bishop Garrison’s role as the Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Defense for Diversity and Inclusion.
This article highlights that Garrison’s initiatives, particularly those aimed at countering extremism within the military, led to the marginalization of service members with conservative viewpoints, potentially undermining the military’s cohesion and apolitical stance. This perspective underscores the tension between efforts to address extremism and the imperative to maintain an inclusive environment that respects diverse political beliefs within the armed forces.
Bishop’s tweets below help to better understand how he thinks. The subject of his tweets is President Trump.
The Path Forward: Pete Hegseth’s Vision
Pete Hegseth’s leadership promises a much-needed course correction for the U.S. military. With a steadfast commitment to the core principles of merit-based performance, mission readiness, and apolitical service, Hegseth’s reforms are poised to restore the military’s focus on its primary objective: preparing to deter and defeat adversaries. You can support President Trump’s appointment of Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense by signing the petition here: https://www.truthforhealth.org/petitions/
Hegseth’s approach begins with addressing the harmful impact of DEI mandates. By eliminating policies that prioritize quotas and politically driven agendas, he aims to create an environment where service members are evaluated solely on their skills, dedication, and contributions to the mission. This shift will not only enhance operational effectiveness but also rebuild trust among the ranks, particularly among those who felt alienated by Garrison’s initiatives.
To remedy the damage caused by the COVID-19 jab mandates, Hegseth has pledged to implement President Trump’s promise to restore discharged service members. He plans to reinstate service members who were unjustly discharged/harmed due to the unlawful mandates and ensure their records are fully restored.
By rectifying these injustices, Hegseth aims to send a powerful message that the military values the rights and contributions of all its members, regardless of their personal or religious convictions. This bold move will not only repair the trust and morale damaged by these mandates but also recover the skills and experience of those wrongfully removed from service.
Moreover, Hegseth’s emphasis on protecting individual rights and freedoms within the military is critical. By ensuring that service members’ religious beliefs and personal convictions are respected, he can foster an inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives without compromising cohesion. Upholding these principles will attract and retain skilled personnel, which in turn helps overcome the recruitment and retention shortfalls exacerbated by recent policies.
Hegseth’s leadership also calls for accountability among military leadership. The erosion of public trust in the military stems in part from decisions made by senior officers who prioritized political conformity over operational effectiveness. Hegseth can restore confidence in the institution’s ability to serve the nation impartially by holding leaders accountable and reinforcing the military’s apolitical stance,
Rebuilding Morale and Strengthening Readiness
The stakes for the U.S. military have never been higher. At a time when global threats continue to escalate, the military must remain laser-focused on its mission to protect and defend the nation.
Hegseth’s reforms aim to rebuild morale, enhance lethality, and restore the military’s reputation as a unified force. Cutting through the political rot that has plagued the institution, Hegseth can create a culture where every service member—regardless of background or belief—is united by a shared commitment to duty, honor, and country.
Bishop Garrison’s tenure have proven destructive, fostering division and undermining the military’s core values. A change in direction is urgently and rapidly needed to reaffirm the principles that have long made the U.S. military the world’s premier fighting force.
As President Trump’s Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth offers America a chance to reverse these trends, ensuring that the military remains a merit based, apolitical institution dedicated to its highest calling: the defense of the United States.
The road ahead will undoubtedly be challenging, but with Hegseth at the helm, the military has a genuine opportunity to reclaim its rightful place as a unified, mission-driven institution.
